Interview on The Podge Cast
The Podge Cast interviewed me on Sunday and within 24 hours, episode is online. That is some crazy-fast turnaround! Listen to us talk about the Thousand-Year Game Design Challenge, Happy Birthday, Robot! and their experiences playing Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple.
We spend a lot of time talking about game design, of course, but we discuss our particular tastes in play. Specifically, we discuss the distance between player and character and how I eventually decided to stake a claim in purely "story games."
Later, we discuss Kickstarter and some tips on how to use it effectively. My main suggestions are to establish clear parameters for your fundraising, keep reasonable expectations, ignite passion for your project, and have tolerant friends willing to spread the word. With all that and a bit of luck, you can have a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Finally, I milk the guys for feedback on Do. That leads to discussion of character ownership, choosing a good name, character arcs, niche protection and creative constraints. All good stuff.
Also, because it is the Podge Cast, there is some raunchy language.
